UV-A / Green Lamps

ImageThe Insectron range can be equipped with lamps emitting only UV-A light, or with two separate lamps, one emitting UV-A light and one green light.

Most of the light produced by UV-A lamps has a wavelength of around 365 nanometres, while the predominant wavelength produced by the green lamps is around 530 nanometres. Choice of lamp type depends on which flying insects need to be controlled.

Independent research has demonstrated that flies in flight are more attracted by UV-A lamps, while flies at rest are more likely to be drawn to green lamps. The Insectron range uses separate UV-A and green lamps rather than 'synergetic' lamps (which produce both green and UV-A wavelengths). Research at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands has shown that a combination of one UV-A lamp and one green lamp has a much greater attraction potential than an integrated UV-A and green lamp.
